What is Bedayat program?

A support program for families who intend to divorce soon or at the beginning of the post-divorce stage

What is the objective of Bedayat ?

The focus of the program is on increasing divorcing parents’ awareness of the impact of divorce on young children and enhancing their understanding of how to support their child(ren) during separation and / or divorce.

Bedayat may assist you and your spouse / ex-spouse in enhancing your skills in effective communication, conflict resolution, anger management and financial management, while keeping your child(ren) out of the middle of your conflict.

Where is the program location?

Children’s sessions will be delivered in one of Aldar academies in Abu Dhabi and more about the location will be provided upon admission to the program.
Parents’ sessions will be held online via Zoom. A link will be provided to you once you start attending the program.

How long is Bedayat program?

The program lasts for 6 weeks.
– The individual sessions are scheduled as per parents’ and the counselors’ availability and can last up to 1 hour.
– The workshop’s date and timing will be provided to families at a later stage. The length of the workshops varies between 1 to 1.5 hours.
– Play therapy sessions last up to 1 hour.

When is the program start date and timings?

Who should attend the program?

– You are a mother or a father; and
– You are living in Abu Dhabi; and
– You have at least one child aged 8 years and under; and
– You are separated, or in the process to apply for divorce, or recently divorced (not more than one year)

Should I attend the program alone or with my spouse / ex-spouse?

The program is designed to include the mother and the father with the child(ren).

My spouse / ex-spouse is refusing to participate in the program; can I still apply to participate with the child(ren)?

Although priority will be given to families including the mother, the father and the child(ren); individual parents and their child(ren) are still welcome to register in the program.

I don’t have any communication with my spouse / ex-spouse. Do I still get to participate in the program?

Although priority will be given to families including the mother, the father and the child(ren); individual parents and their child(ren) are still welcome to register in the program. The program may assist you in identifying methods of communication with your spouse / ex-spouse for the best interests of your child(ren).

Is it mandatory for my child(ren) to attend the program with me?

Yes. Children aged 8 years and under must attend the program with their parents.

I have other children aged above 8 years; can they also attend with their sibling(s) aged 8 years and under?

The main target group is children aged 8 years and under; however if they have older siblings, they are welcome to join the program as well.

Can my child(ren) attend the program without me?

No. Your presence is prerequisite for joining the program.

What will I get from the Bedayat program?
  • Mothers and fathers would attend separate online one-on-one sessions with counselors that would provide them with support and care based on their own individual needs. The sessions will help you heal and overcome any unresolved negative impact from the divorce or separation and will equip you with coping skills.
  • Mothers and fathers get to attend separate support groups with other parents going through the same situation.
    The counselor will help guide the group through conversation. Participants can decide whether or not to share their experience based on their degree of comfort. Every discussion in a support group is typically conducted in strict confidence, which may make people feel more at ease right away. Participants will also sign the group therapy confidentiality agreement.
  • Mothers and fathers will attend online workshops covering various important topics that will aid them in their current situation such as:
    • Telling your children about divorce
    • Understanding the impact of divorce on children and how to protect them from it
    • Parenting after divorce
    • Communicating with the other parent
    • Strategies and coping skills to aid you in healing during and after divorce
    • Financial planning after divorce.
  • You will receive weekly messages that cover self-improvement topics such as self-love, building self-esteem, self-worth and setting boundaries.
  • toolkit will be handed to you at the end of the program that contains useful tips and resources to guide you in your new journey.
What will my child(ren) get from Bedayat program?
  • Children will each benefit from individual play therapy sessions that will help them in expressing their emotions and feelings in a safe environment and resolve their problems.
  • Children will also attend support group sessions with other children who are also experiencing family separation and divorce. They will learn coping skills and self-regulation strategies. They will also get to have more awareness of self and higher self-esteem. The support group will normalize incidence of divorce and explore children’s perspective on family situations after divorce.
What is play therapy and what are its benefits in the child(ren)’s individual sessions?

Play therapy is a type of therapy that is used to help children communicate their inner feelings and experiences through the use of toys and play. On the surface, play therapy may seem like simple play, but with a therapist’s guidance, it is a very effective way for children to deal with their emotions, feelings and problems.

Do I get legal support if I attend the program?

No. The program is focused on counseling support however the team is happy to direct you to available services offered in Abu Dhabi.

What languages are the sessions offered in?

Arabic and English.

Will my or my child(ren)’s name and personal information be disclosed to anyone?

No. All personal information and any information you reveal to us are protected and won’t be shared with any other party without your consent. However, in case the program team suspects that you or your child(ren) are at risk of physical or emotional harm, they will report to concerned authorities as stipulated by the UAE’s laws.

Do I have to pay to attend the Bedayat program?

No. The program is free for the families
